The "S" word

This is a conversation that happened tonight. I'm still more than slightly in shock from it all.

Colby: "Mom, I know what Gay means".

Me: (trying to keep calm while wondering where this is coming from) "Really, what does it mean?"

Colby: "It means when one guy has the "s" word with another guy".

By this time I felt like the entire world had come to a screaming halt. All I could think was ' who the hell told my son about the 's' word?? but of course I replied

"It doesn't always mean sex Colby, it just means that one guy likes another guy, or one girl likes another girl"

Colby: "No mom, gay is just for guys. There is a different word for girls. "

Oh.My.God. Why does my 7 year old know this? I didn't want to go into a big conversation with him as my friend was here at the time, but I'm going to, but I just didn't think I'd be doing it this soon!

Can't wait to hear more about these conversations! Gets me ready for when Hunter does the same thing.

Michael has been asking a lot of questions about that sort of thing lately. They grow up too fast. Fortunately, he is still little enough to want to snuggle with me as he asks his questions. And thank goodness he's asking ME and not the kids at school.

Laughter from the evil uncle ;)

I wonder when he will figure out what a hot redhead is? ;)

Oh, welcome to the club. Our youngest is 10, and I'd like to say that his 15- and 16-year-old brothers have asked every shocking question there is to ask, but I doubt it. On the plus side, my jaw rarely drops open anymore! Good luck!

Yep. My kids were in 1st and 2nd grade when a neighbor kid told them to F**k themselves when they were riding the school bus.

The offending kid...also a 2nd grader. UGH.

This is funny, but also a social issue.
