Ok Where do I start!?

Ok, I love dogs, no secret. There has been a little mutt hanging around the house over the last couple of days. Colby and I decided to go out and shovel the deck this morning and low and behold, who is LIVING under our back deck, the little Mutt. She saw us coming and was so thrilled to have the company, she was tinkling before we even got near her. She hung around the entire time we were out there. She took to Colby right away and he seemed to like her as well. I had to explain it to him...She doesn't belong to us. I told him that some people don't love their dogs as much as others. I asked him if he would let his dog run freely in the middle of winter with nothing to eat except garbage, and he was shocked! He actually shouted back at me, "NO!" I DON'T GET IT!!! What I have a hard time understanding is why someone would go through the trouble to have a dog, put a collar on it and let it roam freely! The temperatures obviously are dangerously cold even for dogs, and she is still a friggin puppy!!! Why do you even bother getting a dog if you are not up to the task of providing for it. Probably the same people who don't know where their kids are at 4am. Luckily there isn't a dog catcher around until the spring, I couldn't bare to see these dogs being shot, it should be the "so called" owners who get punished for letting their animals roam free. I think we should slap a collar around THEIR neck, deprive them of shelter, and let them feed themselves garbage during the -30 deg winter temperatures. Thanks for listening to me RANT....... Rob

You are being too kind to the "owners" . I think they also deserve a well placed, swift toe print in the nads.

If that little pup showed up at my back door, he would be MY dog now. Change the collar, get him plastic surgery and bam...he is in OHN witness protection.

I am horrified by the way some dogs up here are treated. It was even worse in Inuvik.

It was worse in Rae. They had a pound outside of town where they would hold the dogs before bringing them to the dump. The town would pay you $50-75 per dog if you brought in a stray. If they WERE tied on they would cut them loose and bring them in anyway. Then you had to pay the town to get you do back before they were destroyed. Heart breaking for sure. Believe me, if it were under different circumstances we would have the little pup in a heart beat!

I know it's terribly sad. We had a pug - yes a pug, dropped off by our farm last spring. Seriously - what is a pug going to do in the wild? I've seen him chase a rabbit - and it isn't pretty. We took him in, had him fixed - and I am happy to say he's been a part of our family for over 10 months now. It worked out alright for the little guy - but who ever dropped him off can't know that for sure - and I shake my head every day at their stupidity because he is a great little dog.

Hi Rob , tina and the cutest boys ever...

Long time no talk! It seems that you are all still very happy in SK. Good for you guys. I was reading through your blog, as I havent had time to do much lately work work work...but this blog caught my eye....because you know we are HUGE dog lovers. If you could do something for me, if the pup is still around...give him some shelter, and take off the collar...reason being is that he is growing, and the collar will become embedded in his neck, and he will surely die a terrible death. If he has showed up under your porch, well, you dont have to have him live in the house, but pls help him anyway you can. It is a heart breaking tale...at the very least...just remove the collar.

we are doing great, life in BC is so much, umm, WARMER lol than sk...although we do have to say we miss sk. we are coming back this summer for a visit. The winter in BC was amazing, actually it wasnt much of a winter at all...

so, I will try to keep in touch more often, nice to see the boys are loving it there...
