Package from Nanny

This is a package that Mom sent for Colby that has a little something extra for Joey. It is a Luigi from Cars that talks when you hit it.

It's beginning to look a lot like Rae!!!

I received a phone call around 7:30 this morning from the store. The boat has been moved by the water...(UNDERSTATEMENT). I have a 17' Princecraft fishing boat on a trailer in front of the store. It has been there since July and has not moved. The trailer is locked so noone can hook up to it, I never thought they would take the trailer and boat for a joy ride up the road. They took it about 400-500 meters up the road before pushing it into the tall grass surrounding the lake. The boat and trailer flipped over with the trailer on top. Of course I am furious with what happened however there was no damage to the boat or trailer. There may be a silver lining though, they decided to tip over the garbage can that is directly in front of camera outside the store. Cross your fingers, I bet I find em!!!! Thanks to the 6 locals who decided to help the Northern Manager out. The people here for the most part are awesome! I was invited last night for a weekend hunting trip in mid-rutt in 2 weeks. I can't wait! Camping for a couple of nights, getting to know some fellow hunters, it's going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for letting me vent, I will let you know if I find them!!!

He's playing with his WHAT?!

This is the reaction I received, followed by lots of laughter when I said to a group of people the other night that Joey was playing with his dinky. Is this only an East coast term? Do YOU know what I'm talking about when I say that?

I couldn't resist pulling this one forward

Joey and his new game

This is Joey's newest game. He was at this for almost an hour. I promise this is the last video for a while!

Colby cam

This is from October of last year. What a difference in the boys! The sound is terrible but you get the jest of it.

Finally got a video of him talking.

Monster boy

This is him apologizing to Colby after he ran over Colbys fingers with the above bike. As you can tell Colby is not impressed.
This is Joey AFTER he found the pen.

How my day went

So here's a summary of what happened in my house today

I received a phone call today from Colby's principal letting me know that he has lost his recess privledges for the next 2 days for fighting. Yes, you read that right, f-i-g-h-t-i-n-g. My little quiet angel is really not. Seems that the fight yesterday he instigated but was not directly involved in, and the fight today he was in. It wasn't a fistfight (yet), it was more of a scrap. It ended up with a bit of kicking and then Colby crossed the line and threw a rock.

Now, picture a crestfallen Colby shuffling off the bus to the door, waiting to be reamed out by me. So, being the thoughtful considerate mom I am, I decided to have some fun with him.

Colby walking through the door "Hi mom, are you mad?"

me:"No, why would I be mad?"

At this point his face lights up, thinking that I didn't get the phone call the principal told him she would be making. So then of course I said

"I got an interesting phone call today".

At this point his face dropped because then he knew he was busted. We had a chat about the fine line of defending yourself and being a bully, and the importance of using your words when you can. We also talked in length about the dangers of throwing rocks, which he understood.

I told him that since he was being restricted from recess for the next 2 days, he would also lose privledges here for the same time. We have a DVR which has a lot of his shows on it, and I told him that he would not be allowed to use it for this time. He didn't like it but he agreed.

At this point, I went into the kitchen for something and no sooner was in there that Joey was on my heels holding the remote for the DVR. He looks up at me and says "Pokemon Mommy?" Now, Joey does ask to watch shows, Roli Poli, The Doodlebops but never Pokemon. So I asked Joey "Did Colby as you to come in to me?" Which of course Joey said "Yes". (Joey's speech is growing by the day and we can finally understand his answers.) So I went out to Colby and asked him if he sent Joey in to me to put on Pokemon, which he admitted to. THE LITTLE BRAT! I didn't think that using his little brother to get what he wanted was going to happen already! It's all I could do to not laugh. Little monster.

And of course, what's a post without pictures!

This is in Colbys school. This is where they have assemblys and such. This was a Math Night they had the other night.

Colby and Amber trying to see how many drops of water they can get on a penny. Colby and Daddy breaking a wishbone from the thanksgiving turkey. Colby won!

As you may have seen on Facebook.....

After a couple days of working out the details, I have take a job here in town. I have been looking for a job since we moved here, but needed to find something full time to justify paying for daycare for Joey. Full time jobs in this town are hard to come by, especially when you are new to the community. I have accepted a job as a Pre-Kindergarden teacher at the preschool here in town. The perks - it's only 15 hours a week, Monday to Thursday. It's only 5 minutes from home. I have been volunteering in the preschool for the past 2 months on Wednesday mornings so all the staff and kids know me. I am employed through the elementary school so I am on salary as a part time teacher. The drawbacks - It is a split shift - 10:15- 11:30 and then 1 - 3:30, (although this is a perk in itself as it allows me to come home for lunch with Colby everyday as he is bussed home for lunch ). It is a temporary position - I am covering a maternity leave and the woman MAY be coming back in January or she may decide to wait and come back next September, which means I would have the job until June. The other thing is that I will be working in the preschool with the preschool teachers who already have their schedules and routines set with the kids. I admit I am a little nervous to go in and disrupt what they have started and potentially step on toes, as I am really going into this blind. But they are a good group of women, and hopefully will be patient with me as I try and stumble through this. The other thing which I haven't decided if it's a perk or a drawback is that Joey will be going to daycare full time. Luckily even though it's only a part time position I can afford to put him in daycare. This is the first time that he will be in a full time child care situation, and honestly it makes me a little heartsick. But, he's growing up and I know that this interaction with other kids will be good for him, and I'm sure as I get used to the idea of him not always being underfoot I'll enjoy my few hours a day of "mommy free" time. This gives me the chance to have some one on one time with Colby at lunch time everyday, and since I don't work on Fridays and I have to pay for full time care I'll have Fridays to get caught up with whatever I need to. Maybe. Or maybe I'll just keep him home. :)

The first copy

This is how I will be spending the next couple of nights. My friend Tawny, as I have blogged about before, is in the process of writing her first novel. And here is the very first complete copy. She sent it to a select few of us to read in it's complete state. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I purposely did not read the last section she emailed me so I don't know how the story ends. When I emailed her and asked her if I could print it (promising to burn it when I was done) she not only gave me the authorization to print it, but asked me if I would do the first round of editing and send it back to her. So, it will be me, her book and a highlighter and pen
for the next couple of nights.

"I want to shoot something!"

The boys and I went for a drive tonight with Rob to get his trail cam and go "hunting". I really really wanted to shoot something today. I was soo fed up by the end I nearly ended up shooting a squirrel, but that would have just been cruel. So I shot trees and prints instead.

This is what the trails in the woods look like where Rob hunts. I told him the next time he goes out hunting that isn't at 0'stupid'hundred o'clock I'm going with him.

The only thing we found were prints, but there were certainly a lot of them!

Happy birthday Lilyan

I can't believe Lilyan turns 1 today. I watched Val via her blog before, during and after her pregnancy, and was lucky enough to meet both of them when we were in Halifax in June. I feel like we have been friends for years, and in a way we have. Hope you're feeling better Lily! Lots of love from all of us here.

Just like Uncle Adam

This is a few more pictures from this afternoon's rock throwing. This is the "true" Colby coming out, and I could think was "Man, Uncle Adam would be so proud right now". What you see in the pictures at first glance is Colby playing with a rock in the water. What you don't see is the little fish that is in the water that Colby is squishing with the rock in his hand. (The fish was already dead, I think) How is it that Colby can be so much like a guy that he is technically not related to? I can just see a 7 year old Adam doing the same thing, and laughing about it like Colby was. He enjoyed it a little to much in my opinion.

A story in pictures

Colby collecting rocks.

Joey going behind Colby and throwing the rocks back in the water.

Colby catching Joey in the act of throwing away his rocks.

Colby severely telling off Joey. I should have taken a self protrait of me laughing through all this.

Rock throwing

I took the boys down to the wharf this afternoon to get out of the house and throw some rocks. I never realized exactly how much they were alike until I looked at the last 2 pictures. And, as always because it's faster, you can see the rest HERE.

FINALLY! I figured out how to upload a video of my little "angels". Although there is no sound, you still get the jest of it. They lasted exactly 2 seconds before pushing each other. Enjoy!

A trip down memory lane

While looking for a picture for Nicole's post this morning, I found a file with a bunch of old pictures that I forgot I had. (Yes, this is me.)I just couldn't resist posting them so my family could have the laugh that I did this morning looking through them. I posted the rest on Facebook, which you can see HERE

Happy Anniversary Nicole and Lloyd

Look what I found in the archives! Hope you have a great day guys, well at least better than your anniversary last year!

Nothing blogworthy so pictures it is

We went to gym night tonight with Joey's preschool. As you can see, he fits right in.

Woo hoo! Toys!

Colby playing tag.

He's getting so tall. He was being bad and wouldn't look at the camera.

We received a package in the mail from Marylou and her boys. Here he is excited about his new Pokemon cards.

This is my cranky boy. I wanted him to stand up and show off his jacket, which is a jacket that Gramma made for Colby. As you can see, he had other plans that included a temper tantrum.

In Colby's package from Marylou there was also these plates. He loved them but refused to let me put anything on them. He instead plays with them and lines them all up on the floor.

Happy Birthday Nanny!

Happy Birthday Nanny, wish we could be there!

Colby the Chicken Hunter

Colby and I went for a quick hunt this afternoon but were chased from the woods by clouds of "sand Flies" as they call them here, also known as "The Black Fly".

Thanksgiving 2008 a la Schwartz

I decided to show Thanksgiving in pictures. I have had the camera out all day and tried to get as many pictures as I could. I was so busy concentrating on getting pictures of the food, I didnt' take any pictures of who was here. We had 2 in uniform RCMP and one member who was not in duty, (who coincidently showed up in the same shirt as Rob was wearing), and 2 other kids besides ours. It was a houseful but it was fun. I now have a new appreciation for my mom and mom-in-law, who always managed to pull off a big day like this for so many people and made it look easy. It's not! Between making sure everything is cooked at the same time to making sure children have enough to eat, it's exhausting. But, I have to say, I loved every minute of it.

Newfoundland "style" salt beef. Just as good as Chaulkers in my opinion. And only $8.99 at the Northern!

Yes, as you can see, the turkey was also bought at the Northern.

Rob rolling his buns. I offered to help but he declined.

Our newest contribution to our Thanksgiving dinner. Jean's (Rob's mom) home made rolls. I think I need a bigger pot.

This is how I ended up cooking the veggies. It made quite a mess on the stove as the steam kept building up on the tinfoil and dripped on the damper and the stove.

Rob talking to his Grandmother.

Yummy! And no, that is not all grease in the pan. We added a fair amount of water.

Gravy with just a touch of "brown".

Connie's onion loaf, and if I do say so myself, the best one I've made yet.

Super yummy dressing made by Rob.

All cut up and ready to eat!

The whole spread.

All the desserts.

And of course, the final result. An hour worth of dishes, but it was definately worth it!
