I am in desperation making this post. Not to sound like a whiney baby, but my ear hurts! I have had an ear ache for the last week and I can't seem to shake it. I've tried Tylenol, Ibuprofen, a hot water bottle and a hair dryer. Nothing seems to work. There is an issue at the Nurses station right now and they're not taking patients for the next week (who knows?). I really don't want to drive to Yellowknife for an OTC but I'm getting pretty desperate. I was up until 2Am this morning because it hurt too much to lay down. I have been googling home remedies for ear aches and I have found some that say a 50/50 water/ peroxide combo, 50/50 vinegar / water combo. I can't get peroxide at the Northern for obvious reasons, and I'm a little nervous about putting vinegar in my ear. Anyone have any suggestions? I have an appointment at the nurse's station for next Monday but that feels like a million years away. At this point I'll try almost anything.

Sorry to hear you are in pain! Ear ache sucks! Unfortunately, I don't have any home remedies for that type of pain... It sounds like you might need some antibiotics.
Hope you'll feel better soon!
Try some warm olive oil and use a dropper to out it in your ear...actually I was going to ask you what it was you used for Joey's ear when you were home last year

For Joey's ear? I don't remember using anything for Joey's ear. Did he have an ear infection?
Tina... man, that happened to me when we were in Greece last time. I tried the olive oil.. it helped a little. Turns out what my problem was was hard wax... (well the nurse could't see if I had an infection because of the wax) so I used something called Ear-ease(or something and it helped) so I say try oil.. it should at least ease the pressure... Hope it goes away soon
A friend's gramma back east used to tell me to put a sock full of salt next to my ear when I had an earache. (!?)
That's probably not very helpful, but I can help with the Northmart photo. Jackie passed me the torch when she left for Rankin, so I'll do my best to get that to you this week.
It was a little too blustery out today to actually get a clear view of it. :)
Hey Tina.
I had an earache a while back and the doctors said any type of oil (kitchen not mechanical) in your ear would help. Try Mineral oil or vegetable oil if your ear. it'll loosen up anything that's in there, hopefully. Good luck!

Thanks to all the suggestions everyone but thanks to my new best friend Tracey who is an EMT/PCW here she got me in to see one of the nurses today and I have antibiotics! WOO HOO SLEEP TONIGHT! And Kate, thanks so much! Looking forward to the pic!
the peroxide/water and vinegar/water is more if you ear is draining IE purulent drainage (pus-like stuff).
do you have a fever? if not, it may be a wax problem and you could use oil, but if it an infection in the ear canal then it may make it worse....
tough call, is the healthcentre open for emergencies? could you call and speak to the nurse-on-call and tell her you have been up at 2am and you can't sleep?
