Thanksgiving 2008 a la Schwartz

I decided to show Thanksgiving in pictures. I have had the camera out all day and tried to get as many pictures as I could. I was so busy concentrating on getting pictures of the food, I didnt' take any pictures of who was here. We had 2 in uniform RCMP and one member who was not in duty, (who coincidently showed up in the same shirt as Rob was wearing), and 2 other kids besides ours. It was a houseful but it was fun. I now have a new appreciation for my mom and mom-in-law, who always managed to pull off a big day like this for so many people and made it look easy. It's not! Between making sure everything is cooked at the same time to making sure children have enough to eat, it's exhausting. But, I have to say, I loved every minute of it.

Newfoundland "style" salt beef. Just as good as Chaulkers in my opinion. And only $8.99 at the Northern!

Yes, as you can see, the turkey was also bought at the Northern.

Rob rolling his buns. I offered to help but he declined.

Our newest contribution to our Thanksgiving dinner. Jean's (Rob's mom) home made rolls. I think I need a bigger pot.

This is how I ended up cooking the veggies. It made quite a mess on the stove as the steam kept building up on the tinfoil and dripped on the damper and the stove.

Rob talking to his Grandmother.

Yummy! And no, that is not all grease in the pan. We added a fair amount of water.

Gravy with just a touch of "brown".

Connie's onion loaf, and if I do say so myself, the best one I've made yet.

Super yummy dressing made by Rob.

All cut up and ready to eat!

The whole spread.

All the desserts.

And of course, the final result. An hour worth of dishes, but it was definately worth it!

Haha - sounds much like our Thanksgiving up here! A couple of us teachers (Me, Darcy, Monty, Paulette and Salam) and two non-uniformed RCMP all gathered together down the hill at my old house for a good Thanksgiving feast. No kids .. but we had Jiggs Dinner, veggies galore, stuffing, turkey, apple crumble and coconut cream pie. I'm now here in a turkey induced coma.

Yeah, I'm curious about the onion loaf, too! Looks like a great supper. And by the by, we have the same cupboards, and I have a Maytag stove, too! (Although I opted for a smooth-top because I am forever boiling things over!!)
Happy Thanksgiving!

OMG Tina... I'm sat at work drooling. I miss Thanksgiving. Could you package some rolls (they look awesome), dressing, onion loaf and turkey and send it over, lol.
