Need a little help

Colby's class is having a Valentine's party, and although the teachers did not ask parents to send in something, it was implied in the newsletter that said "if parents choose to send in treats for the valentine's day party, please be cautious of allergies in the classroom". Well, there is a kid in his class that is allergic to nuts, and there is a kid who Colby says is "allergic to sugar". Well, after asking around, it's not that he's allergic to sugar, it is that his parents refuse to let him have any sort of "sugary" treat. At all. Poor little bugger. I really want to send in something, but it has to be nut free and sugar free. Broccolli? Carrots? Packages of oatmeal? Fruit To Go? I'm at a loss. I thought of going to the dollar store and buying valentine pencils or stickers or something, but hell, who really wants that? And since the choices are so limited I'm sure that there will be plenty of Rice Krispy squares already, even though the marshmellow is probably off limits to this little guy. I wanna do something "cool" as Colby would say, but I just don't know what to do that would allow them all to have it. Any suggestions?

You could make something with gummy treats, they are sometimes sugar free.

If not I say get whatever nut-free thing you want, cause the sugar thing is not an allergy. Tough turkey for the loser, it's a good enough time to learn that life isn't always fair (and never will be with cracker jack parents raising you!).

That's my $0.02

I can't do that to the little guy. He didn't choose his tree hugging granola eating parents!

How about something with fruit? I was thinking of something different and "cool"... a chocolate - fruit fondue, maybe? The little guy can eat the fruit without dipping it in the melted dark chocolate. But then again, this might be a bit messy and hard to bring to school. And hard on the tree hugging granola eating parents' kid. Sorry, Tina, I could work with nut-free... but sugar-free is quite tough!

Hi My aunt use to make Jello jigglers, she would make jello in a cookie sheet and cut them out, with cookie cutters.... But I do not think it is straight Jello, I think you need to add jelotin as well check out the jello website. I try to keep sugar out of my diet as well, not always sucessfull mind you, but I often eat sugar free jello, or sugar free candy.

good Luck Mary Lou

Allergies and medical conditions are one thing, but if you let idiots keep imposing their ridiculous restrictions on you, when does it end?

No dinky cars, cause you don't want to offend people without cars?

No spongebob-squarepants, because some kid doesn't have a tv?

No christmas tree, instead a "holiday" tree?

This may come off as a bit of a rant, but I stand by it. If some kid's parents don't want their kid having sugar, then it's up to their kid to say no and suffer. What if the kid was a strict vegan?
